Python Prints: Working the snakeskin pattern into your everyday wardrobe

When a new trend hits the runway, some of us dive headfirst into the look while others may want to ease into it.

Snake print is one trend I am ready to embrace

(Timid ladies… keep scrolling down)

Commit to a Dress

For those of you looking to make a bold snake statement, look for a dress or jumpsuit. Here’s a few of my favorites. I really like the Alice + Olivia one for a night out and the ASOS my favorite work-wear option.

If you’re not ready to fully commit to the dress, you can either toss a blazer or jacket over it, look for a subtle print like this navy/ black pattern. Still not sold? Keep scrolling.

This has been a favorite dress of mine for years, by Juicy Couture.

Snake and Simple

Wearing python print on only half the body is still really fun and can be bold or not. Fitted or flowey, this pattern looks great with solid leather leggings, a basic tan mock neck top or black distressed denim.

Here’s a few of my favorite tops and skirts:

I’m so in love with this skirt from Nasty Gal. (Thanks Kristen Coffey for the recommendation) IRL or on-air, this skirt always gets lots of complements. But if you get it, be sure to order at least one size up, it runs small.

Bag or Boots

I. Love. This. Option.

Honestly really struggled narrowing this one down to just four options but here’s a look at a couple pieces I have in my shopping cart right now.

Buckle or Tie It

If you’re looking for the smallest pop of print, this is a great way to add it. Grab a belt, headband, scarf or bag strap.

Left to Right: Headband, Macy’s $10; Belt, Lulu’s $10; Scarf, LOFT $25 sale; Guitar Strap, Michael Kors (on a Coach bag) $148

The Guitar strap is no longer available for sale in stores, however, I do have a couple for sale in my Poshmark closet for $90. New to Posh? Use code STEVE383 for $10 off first purchase.

Lets talk texture

If you’re still not convinced on this whole trend (but really, how could you not be??) the absolute most subtle way to incorporate python is through texture. Look for genuine snake skin or embossed vegan leather. It can be nearly any color, and apparently even holographic.

Here’s a look at a few items in my own closet and online:

Left to Right: Hologram crossbody, Amazon, $24; White booties, Own from Power & Light District in KC; Jessica Simpson blush pump, Macy’s, out of stock; Gigi Uber Clutch

Final Thoughts:

Keep it fun, give it a try but don’t force it. If you’re not comfortable with python print (or any other trend for that matter) don’t feel like you have to have it. Confidence is key, and as long as you like what you’re wearing, you’ll rock it.
