Two Detroit companies collaborate for buzz-worthy bourbon

Once again, Detroit City Distillery and Bees in the D are giving us something to buzz about.

The two Detroit-based brands are collaborating for a very limited edition release.

Meet the Honey Bourbon.

It’s finished with raw honey from Bees in the D beehives located on the rooftop of DCD’s Whiskey Factory, and this year, it retails for a lower price of $60.

“People from all over ask us if they can buy Honey Bourbon all year long. Our goal this year is to make it more accessible and available to Michiganders throughout our great state,” said Michael Forsyth, co-owner of Detroit City Distillery. “We are distributing this bourbon to grocers, liquor stores, bars and restaurants for the first time and lowering the price so more people can try it. This fine bourbon features the truest taste of Detroit you can get. We combine our award-winning bourbon we make in Eastern Market with honey made by thousands of honeybees using flower nectar from all over the city. It just doesn’t get any better than that.”

Produced only once-a-year, coinciding with the annual honey harvest, this wildly popular seasonal spirit routinely sells out in days.

We can’t forget the Bourbon-barrel Aged Honey. Retailing at $40 a bottle, this unique honey was aged in DCD’s bourbon barrels.

Both products come packaged with ornate honeybee labels.

At the product launch party, we had the opportunity to try their signature Bee Bee King, and as an unofficial hot toddy connoisseur, I can say it was delectable.

Didn’t make it out? We were able to get their Old Fashioned recipe.
