Cheers! Over-the-top holiday themed tavern, Blitzen's on Bagley, opens in Detroit

Holiday music fills the air, bartenders serve up Christmas cocktails in ugly sweaters and tinsel covers nearly every surface.

Sure, it may feel a bit cheesy and over-the-top but this bar is guaranteed to put you in the holiday spirit.

Blitzen’s on Bagley is a holiday-themed pop-up tavern, open just for the Christmas season.

"For the next two months, when you want to meet someone for a holiday hello, Blitzen's will be the place to be," said Nick Austin, pop-up manager and local radio host. "We'll have special holiday-themed drinks, over-the-top decorations, and the coolest seasonal music around. Mistletoe is optional."

My college bestie Stephanie and I stopped by the corner of Christmas cheer just one day after the grand opening. The quaint space doesn’t seat many, but the community tables and shared conversations with strangers makes it feel like you’re at a holiday party in someone’s home.

The seasonal pop-up is the vision of InLaws Hospitality, the owners of other local attractions, including Green Dot Stables and Goblin.

"We want every Cindy Lou Who or Kris Kingle with a need to celebrate to feel welcome here," said InLaws Owner Christine Driscoll. "Detroiters deserve to cut loose this season in an environment complete with twinkling lights, Christmas cookies and the best holiday music. We'll be all that and more." 

Blitzen's on Bagley serves up holiday cheer with festive cocktails like Spiked Egg Nog, a Very Merry Marg, and Grinch Punch. For those of you not wanting to imbibe, there’s spiritless options too.

Christmas cookies from pastry chef Anna Bolz. and food from the local eateries: Shell Shock'd Tacos and Goblin Sushi.

Stephanie and I ordered sushi bowls from Goblin, not only were they delicious and affordable, they also delivered right to our table at Blitzen’s.

As for instagramable photo ops? They’re everywhere.

But if you decide to take a pic in front of the digital fireplace, be warned. Everyone outside is watching you strike a pose!

Reindeer parking is available on the roof and vehicle parking is located in the back lot at 2545 Bagley in Detroit, Mich.
